There is a time of night — the deep blue hour between midnight and dawn — when everything unnecessary falls away and only what is essential remains. Hues of Silence lives in that hour.
A monumental female figure fills the canvas from edge to edge, rendered in near-white against a midnight blue field that carries within it the grain and depth of ancient wood — layered, directional, alive with the quiet energy of something that has stood for a long time and will stand longer still. Her form is outlined with graphic precision, her cascading hair built in the same architectural stepped geometry that defines the She series at its most resolved. She is still. She is complete.
In her arms, held against her chest with a care that is neither performative nor sentimental but simply true: a tiny blue cat. It is the single concentrated point of colour in the entire painting — cobalt and cerulean, speckled with luminous detail, jewel-bright against the pale expanse of her form. A full moon occupies the upper left corner, a second circle of white light in correspondence with the figure below.

About the Artist
Sheena Bharathan is a Singapore-based contemporary artist whose work spans oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas. A former child psychologist, her practice is rooted in the psychology of the interior — the emotions, memories and quiet reckonings that define the human experience.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Florence Biennale 2023 and recognised with the Japan International Art Award. Studio Monsoon is her creative home — a space for original works, commissions and art classes in Singapore.
